Abstract

Odlaganje otpada na odlagališta najčešći je i najjeftiniji postupak zbrinjavanja otpada. Zbog neadekvatnog uređenja, odlagališta predstavljaju veliki problem zbog širenja neugodnih mirisa, opasnih plinova i zagađenih procjednih voda koje mogu kontaminirati podzemne vode. Tako podzemne vode postaju opasne za okoliš i zdravlje ljudi i životinja. Cilj ovog rada je utvrditi citotoksičnost, genotoksičnost i svojstvo indukcije slobodnih radikala podzemnih voda s područja odlagališta otpada Trebež, Samobor, uzorkovanih prilikom sanacije ovog odlagališta. Kao test sustav korištena je stanična linija humanog adenokarcinoma epitela debelog crijeva CaCo2, koja je bila izložena djelovanju uzorkovanih podzemnih voda tijekom 72 sata. Rezultati su pokazali da podzemne vode djeluju citotoksično, te da uzrokuju indukciju slobodnih radikala i oštećenje DNA. Također je ustanovljeno da nema povezanosti između citotoksičnog učinka i indukcije slobodnih radikala. U podzemnim vodama prisutno je mnogo vrsta kontaminanata koje mogu uzrokovati dokazane učinke. Iako su koncentracije individualnih kontaminanata vrlo niske, učinci se mogu pripisati njihovom aditivnom i/ili sinergističkom učinku.

Abstract (english)

Waste disposal at landfills is the most common and least expensive waste disposal process. Due to inadequate arrangement, landfills represent a major problem for spreading unpleasant smells, hazardous gases and polluted leachate, which can contaminate groundwater. Thus groundwater becomes dangerous for the environment and human and animal health. The aim of this paper is to determine cytotoxicity, genotoxicity and induction of free radicals of groundwater from the area of landfill Trebež, Samobor, sampled during the sanation of this landfill. As the test system, a human colon adenocarcinoma cell line CaCo2 was used, and it was exposed to the collected samples of groundwater for 72 hours. Results have shown that groundwater samples caused cytotoxic effects, induction of free radicals and DNA damage. It has also been found that there is no correlation between cytotoxic effect and free radical induction. There are many types of contaminants in groundwater that can cause proven effects. Although concentrations of individual contaminants are very low, effects can be attributed to their additive and/or synergistic effect.
