Abstract

Zajutrak je prvi obrok u danu i važan za djecu budući da im daje energiju za početak dana, poboljšava njihovo učenje i ponašanje, a njegova redovita konzumacija pomaže u kontroli tjelesne mase. Djeca u dobi od 9. godina već samostalno odlučuju hoće li, i što će konzumirati za zajutrak te u svrhu uvida u trenutno stanje, učestalosti konzumiranja zajutraka i njihovih prehrambenih navika, proveden je upitnik među učenicima trećih razreda jedne osnovne škole u Zagrebačkoj županiji (n=62). Rezultati upitnika pokazuju da više od 20 % ispitane djece ne konzumira svakodnevno zajutrak, iako svi smatraju da je on iznimno važan. Za zajutrak najčešće konzumiraju pahuljice s mlijekom, ali je važno da one nisu procesirane i zaslađene, jer na taj način predstavljaju namirnicu bogatu kalorijama s malom nutritivnom vrijednošću. Na temelju rezultata ovog upitnika može se zaključiti kako je nužno educirati roditelje i djecu o važnosti konzumiranja zajutraka kao i o pravilnim prehrambenim navikama vezanih uz odabir namirnica za zajutrak i njegovu jednostavnu pripremu. Djeca u ranom djetinjstvu stječu životne navike i način ponašanja te je edukacija u toj dobi nužna radi prevencije pretilosti i svakako s naglaskom na multidisciplinarni pristup koji uključuje promicanje pravilne prehrane, poticanje tjelesne aktivnosti i usvajanje zdravog načina života.

Abstract (english)

Breakfast is the first meal in a day, and he is important for kids, since it provides them with energy for the day-start and improves their learning and behaviour. Regular consumption of a breakfast also helps to control the body mass. Children at age of nine year, independently decide will they, and what they going to eat for breakfast. So, this study was aimed to gain an insight into the current state of the frequency of consuming breakfast and the eating habits of pupils (n=62). We conducted a questionnaire among pupils of third grades in a primary school in the Zagreb district. Result of the questionnaire showed that more than 20 % of the children do not consume breakfast every day although all of them find it extremely important to consume breakfast regularly. As breakfast is commonly consumed “cereal with milk”, but from the dietary point of view, it is important that they are not processed and sweetened, because then it is food high in calories with little nutritional value. The results reveal the need to educate parents and children about the importance of breakfast consumption, what are proper eating habits, and the food that can be selected in its easy preparation. Children acquire habits and behaviours in early childhood, so this is the adequate age to educate them how and what to eat in order to prevent obesity, with an emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach that includes the promotion of proper nutrition, encouraging physical activity and adopt healthy lifestyles.
