Abstract

Diabetes mellitus tip 2 se može nazvati bolešću našeg vremena. Diabetes mellitus tip 2 je skupina metaboličkih poremećaja koji dovode do povišene razine glukoze u krvi, a proizlaze iz bilo nedovoljne količine proizvedenog inzulina ili neadekvatnog odgovora stanice na inzulin. Govoreći o diabetes mellitus tip 2, prepoznata su dva podtipa ovisno o odgovoru organizma - inzulin rezistencija i oslabljeno lučenje inzulina. Iako se uvriježeno stajalište da je diabetes mellitus tip 2 bolest modernog vremena, ovisna o neadekvatnom načinu prehrane koja je bogata jednostavnim ugljikohidratima i mastima te nadasve manjku tjelesne aktivnosti, djelomična predispozicija na diabetes mellitus tip 2 također leži u našim genima. Diabetes mellitus tip 2 je poligenska bolest te je dosad poznato gotovo 100 gena za koje se vjeruje da su uzročno povezani. Zbog navedenih razloga, u ovom radu se želimo osvrnuti na generiranje mreže gena povezane s diabetes mellitus tip 2, te kasnijom procjenom i povezanošću sa prehrambenim preporukama.

Abstract (english)

Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a disease typical of our time. It is a group of metabolic diseases which result in elevated blood sugar resulting from either inadequate insulin production or improper response of cells to the insulin. Based on that two subtypes of diabetes mellitus type 2 have been recognised – Insulin resistance and Impaired insulin secretion. Although diabetes mellitus type 2 is believed to be disease of the modern age due to inadequate diet rich in sugars and fats and lack of physical activity part of the cause also lies in the genetic blueprint of the affected individuals. Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a polygenic disease and up until now almost 100 genes believed to be involved have been found. Great contributing factor is environment, including everyday lifestyle. For that purpose in this work, gene networks believed to be linked to diabetes mellitus were generated and later assessed for optimal diet recommendations.
