Abstract

U sklopu aktualnih istraživanja na području mezogenih spojeva svinute geometrije koji pokazuju odaziv u električnom polju pripravljeni su derivati benzofenona s višestrukim terminalnim lancima, a s ciljem utvrđivanja utjecaja strukture, tj. broja terminalnih lanaca na njihova mezogena svojstva. Rezultati istraživanja pokazali su da broj terminalnih lanaca utječe kako na oblik molekule tako na vrstu i temperaturu faznih prijelaza. Općenito temperature faznih prijelaza padaju s porastom broja terminalnih lanaca. Spoj s dva terminalna lanca pokazuje N i SmC fazu što je u skladu s njegovim "banana" oblikom. Povećanjem broja lanaca na četiri i šest oblik molekule se pomiče prema diskolikoj strukturi što rezultira pojavom Colh faze.

Abstract (english)

Inspired by the current research in the field of bent-core mesogenic compounds with ferroelectric properties, polycatenar benzophenone derivatives were prepared. The aim of this work was to study the effect of the structure, particularly the number of the terminal chains, on the liquid-crystalline properties of the prepared compounds. Obtained results revealed that not only the shape of the molecule but also the type of mesophase and the temperatures of the phase transition have been greatly affected by the number of the terminal chains. Generally, the phase transition temperatures are decreasing with increasing number of chains. Compound containing two terminal chains displays N and SmC phase what is in agreement with its banana shape. Increasing the chain number to four or six shifts the shape of the molecule toward disk-like structure resulting in appearance of Colh phase.
