Abstract

Prehrani i prehrambenom statusu bolesnika u bolnicama često se ne pridaje dovoljno pažnje iako je dokazano da utječu na ozdravljenje. Svrha ovog rada bila je pokazati da se primjenom jednostavne metode može provjeriti prehrambeni status pacijenta pri dolasku u bolnicu i identificirati one bolesnike kojima je potrebna opsežnija procjena prehrambenog statusa i nutritivna terapija. Ispitanici su bili pacijenti sa gastrointestinalnim bolestima. Svi pacijenti su ispitani pomoću upitnika koji je zahtijevao mjerenje tjelesne mase i visine, podatke o nenamjernom smanjenju tjelesne mase, prehrambenim navikama, bolestima i simptomima, te ostalim čimbenicima koji mogu utjecati na prehrambeni status. Rezultati potvrđuju da većina pacijenata ima problema sa uhranjenošću i da su indeks tjelesne mase (BMI) i jednostavan upitnik (sa subjektivnim zaključkom) sasvim dovoljni za provjeru prehrambenog statusa bolničkih pacijenata s gastrointestinalnim bolestima.

Abstract (english)

Despite the proved influence on disease outcome, nutrition and nutritional status of hospitalized patients is often overlooked. The objective was to show that simple screening method carried out on admission to hospital can determine patient’s nutritional status and identify which patients will benefit from a more comprehensive nutrition assessment and nutritional therapy. Subjects were patients with gastrointestinal diseases. They were interviewed using a questioner which included measurements of body weight and height, information on unintentional weight loss, dietary habits, diseases and conditions, and other variables possibly affecting nutritional status. The results confirm problems with nutrition in most patients and show that body mass index (BMI) combined with a simple screening sheet (subjective clinical assessment) is sufficient for evaluation of nutritional status in hospitalized gastrointestinal patients
