Abstract

Prevalencija neadekvatnog statusa vitamina D svjetskih je razmjera i povezana je s niskim prehrambenim unosom, smanjenim izlaganjem suncu, starenjem, među ostalim i s prekomjernom tjelesnom masom. Cilj ovog istraživanja bio je odrediti unos i status vitamina D u osoba s prekomjernom tjelesnom masom. Ispitanici su bili odrasle osobe oba spola prosječne dobi 43,5 godina (n=36). Upitnik o učestalosti konzumiranja hrane i pića (FFQ) i 24-satno prisjećanje korišteni su za procjenu unosa vitamina D. Status vitamina D određen je mjerenjem cirkulirajućeg 25 – hidroksivitamina D [25(OH)D]. Prosječan dnevni unos vitamina D određen FFQ-om bio je 2,51 μg/dan, a riba je bila glavni izvor u prehrani. Najveći udio ispitanika (77,8 %) imao je unos vitamina D manji od 20 % dnevnog preporučenog unosa. Prosječna koncentracija 25(OH)D u serumu bila je 48,9 nmol L-1. Neadekvatan status vitamina D (<75 nmol L-1) imalo je 88,9 % ispitanika. Istraživanje je pokazalo visoku prevalenciju neadekvatnog unosa i statusa vitamina D u osoba s prekomjernom tjelesnom masom.

Abstract (english)

Inadequate vitamin D status is highly prevalent worldwide and is associated with low dietary intake, insufficient sun exposure, aging and overweight. The aim of this study was to determine vitamin D intake and status among the overweight people. Participants were adults of both gender with mean age 43.5 years (n=36). A food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) and 24-hour recall were used to assess vitamin D intake. Vitamin D status was assessed by determining the concentration of circulating 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D]. The average daily vitamin D intake was 2.51 μg/day according to FFQ, and fish was the main source of vitamin D in a diet. The majority of the participants (77.8 %) had vitamin D intake less than 20 % of dietary reference intake. The average serum 25(OH)D concentration was 48.4 nmol/L. Inadequate vitamin D status (<75 nmol/L) had 88.9 % of the participants. The study has shown a high prevalence of inadequate vitamin D intake and status among overweight people.
