Abstract

Kofein je najpopularniji prirodni stimulans tj. biljni alkaloid koji ima pozitivan učinak na mentalne i tjelesne funkcije. Iako je pronaĎen u 60-tak biljnih vrsta, kofein se najčešće unosi u organizam konzumiranjem kave, čaja, coca-cole, proizvoda s ekstraktom guarane, a u novije vrijeme i konzumiranjem enrgetskih napitaka, čija potrošnja kontinuirano raste, posebice meĎu mlaĎom populacijom. MeĎutim, zbog potencijalnih zdravstvenih rizika konzumiranja kofeina izrazito je vaţno voditi računa o konzumiranim količinama, a jednako tako i pravilnom označavanju udjela kofeina u proizvodima. Stoga je cilj ovog rada bio usporediti udjel kofeina, odreĎen metodom tekućinske kromatografije visoke djelotvornosti (HPLC-DAD) s udjelom označenim na proizvodu, u 15 energetskih napitaka dostupnih na trţištu. Kao uvod u istraţivanje provedeno je anketno ispitivanje koje je pokazalo da 50 % ispitanika, koji konzumiraju energetske napitke, su u dobi od 18 do 25 godina. MeĎu 15 ispitivanih uzoraka, u 13 je utvrĎeno odstupanje do 10 % od vrijednosti označene na proizvodu, 1 uzorak pokazuje odstupanje od 19,5 %, dok na jednom proizvodu nije naveden udjel kofeina u proizodu, što je posebice zabrinjavajuće i ukazuje na potrebu veće kontrole.

Abstract (english)

Caffeine is the most popular natural stimulant ie. a plant alkaloid that has a positive effect on mental and physical functions.Although found in around 60 plant species, caffeine is most commonly consumed through coffee, tea, Coca Cola, products with guarane extract and in more recent times, by consuming energy drinks whose consumption is continuously rising particularly amongst young population. Nevertheless, due to potential health risks that come with caffeine consumption, it is extremely important to take into account the amount consumed as well as the proper labelling of the caffeine share in products. Therefore, the purpose of this paper was to compare the share of caffeine, determined with the high performance chromatography method (HPLC -DAD), with shares being marked on products in 15 energy drinks available on the market. As an introduction to the research, a survey was carried out, which has shown that 50% of respondents consuming energy drinks are 18-25 years old. Among the 15 tested samples, in 13 were found deviation to 10% from the value being marked on the product, 1 sample shows deviation of 19%, while on one product the share of caffeine wasn't even listed, which is extremely terrifying and points out the need of greater control.
