Abstract

Obzirom na nedostatak farmakološke potpore u liječenju Alzheimerove bolesti (AB) budući da je liječenje simptomatsko, pojavila se potreba za istraživanjem nutritivne potpore kao dodatku terapiji. Cilj rada bio je procijeniti učinak kontrolirane konzumacije soka od jabuke u usporedbi sa placebom na kvalitetu života ispitanika i njihovih njegovatelja. U istraživanju je sudjelovalo 84 ispitanika nasumično podijeljnih u dvije skupine tijekom 8 tjedana intervencije, uz probir prije intervencije (2 tjedna) te razdoblje praćenja nakon završetka intervencije (2 tjedna). Rezultati su pokazali kako kontrolirana konzumacija soka od jabuke ne utječe na promjene u kvaliteti života ispitanika i/ili njihovih njegovatelja, ali smanjuje ukupne smetnje ponašanja te pojedinačne simptome agresije, iritabilnosti te agitacije.

Abstract (english)

Given the lack of pharmacological support in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD) due to the fact that the treatment is symptomatic, a need to examine nutritional support as supplementary therapy to AD arrised. The aim of the paper was to evaluate the effect of controlled consumption of apple juice compared to placebo on the quality of life of the subjects and their caregivers. 84 subjects were randomly divided into two parallel groups during 8 weeks of intervention, along with the screening period before the intervention (2 weeks) and the follow-up period after the intervention (2 weeks). The results have shown that controlled consumption of apple juice does not affect the quality of life of the subjects and/or their caregivers but does reduce overall behavioral disturbances and individual symptoms of aggression, iritability and agitation.
