Abstract

Mikroorganizmi iz skupine Oomycetes česti su uzročnici bolesti biljaka i životinja. Trenutne metode koje su se pokazale učinkovitima u njihovoj kontroli uključuju uporabu toksičnih spojeva poput formaldehida i malahitnog zelenila pa se javila potreba za razvojem novih, manje štetnih tretmana. U ovom radu istraženo je djelovanje ekstrakata lovora (Laurus nobilis L.) na rast micelija oomiceta in vitro (Aphanomyces astaci, kao patogen slatkovodnih rakova, te Phytophthora cactorum i Phytophthora plurivora kao biljni patogeni). Najveći inhibicijski učinak postignut je u slučaju A. astaci (prosječan rast 24 % u odnosu na kontrolu). U suprotnosti s tim, vrste iz roda Phytophthora pokazale su otpornost na ekstrakte lovora jer inhibicijski učinak ili nije bio značajan (prosječan rast 96 – 99 %) ili su korišteni ekstrakti djelovali poticajno na rast (prosječan rast 104 – 121 %). Zaključno, ekstrakti lovora bi se u budućnosti mogli koristiti u borbi protiv štetnog djelovanja oomiceta u slatkovodnoj akvakulturi.

Abstract (english)

Pathogenic oomycetes are often causing infections of plants and animals. Since current methods of their control include toxic chemicals, such as formaldehyde and malachite green, it is desirable to develop new, less harmful treatments. The aim of this study was to test the effect of laurel (Laurus nobilis L.) leaf extracts on the growth of oomycete mycelium in vitro (Aphanomyces astaci, as freshwater crayfish pathogen, Phytophthora cactorum and Phytophthora plurivora as plant pathogens). The most significant inhibitory effect was noted in the case of A. astaci (growth of 24 % in comparison to the control). On the contrary, Phytophthora species were resistant to laurel extracts since the growth was either not significantly retarded (96 – 99 %) or it was even slightly improved (104 – 121 %). In conclusion, laurel leaf extracts could be used for the control of oomycete pathogens in freshwater aquaculture.
