Abstract

Poznata je važnost cinka kao tehnološke sirovine, no sve više se naglasak stavlja na njegovu ulogu u organizmu čovjeka. Jedan je od najvažnijih elemenata u tragovima. Homeostaza cinka regulirana je proteinskim transporterima i metalotioneinima. Cink potpomaže rad enzima, sudjeluje u međustaničnoj komunikaciji, sintezi proteina te pravilnom radu i razvoju stanica. S obzirom na njegovu važnost u imunosnom sustavu, postoji povezanost narušene homeostaze i pojave različitih upalnih i autoimunih bolesti. U današnje vrijeme sve se više ispituje učinak cinka na stanja poput reumatoidnog artritisa, dijabetesa, Alzheimerove bolesti i multiple skleroze te se na temelju pozitivnih rezultata vrše daljnja istraživanja.

Abstract (english)

It is well known that zinc is used for plenty industrial and biological uses but, nowdays, its role in human organism is coming more to focus. It is one of the most important trace elements. Zinc homestasis is regulated by transport proteins and metallothioneins. Zinc has important roles in enzyme function, protein synthesis, intercellullar communication mechanisms and proper cell function and development. Considering its importance in immune system function, it can be said that connection between imbalanced homeostasis and development of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases exists. Recently, there are more and more studies which examine the effect that zinc has in different conditions like rheumathoid arthritis, diabetes, Alzheimer's disease and multiple sclerosis and, based on previous positive outcomes, even more research can be expected.
