Abstract

Konvencionalno biološko uklanjanje fosfora iz otpadne vode se provodi pomoću fosfor akumulirajućih organizama (engl., PAO, Phosphate Accumulating Organisms) u anaerobno-aerobnim uvjetima. Uklanjanje fosfora biološkim putem je moguće i u striktnim aerobnim uvjetima, u kojima su elektron donor (izvor ugljika) i elektron akceptor (kisik) istovremeno prisutni. Cilj ovog rada je pregled dosadašnjih spoznaja o uklanjanju fosfora u striktnim aerobnim uvjetima, bez prethodne anaerobne faze, za koju se smatralo da je neophodna. U striktnim aerobnim uvjetima su vidljive faza obilja (engl. feast) i faza gladovanja (engl. famine), koje su istovjetne konvencionalnim anaerobno-aerobnim uvjetima vezano za promjene u koncentraciji hlapljivih masnih kiselina, glikogena, polihidroksi alkanoata i polifosfata. Vođenje procesa u striktnim aerobnim uvjetima rezultira manjom količinom pohranjenog glikogena, sintetiziranih polihidroksi alkanoata, te cjelokupnoj količini hidroliziralih polifosfata. PAO su vrlo široka skupina organizama s različitim metaboličkim mogućnostima, a za uklanjanje fosfora u striktnim aerobnim uvjetima su vjerojatno odgovorni netradicionalni PAO, poput Microthrix parvicella.

Abstract (english)

Conventional biological phosphorus removal from wastewater is performed under anaerobic-aerobic conditions using phospate-accumulating organisms (PAO). Biological phosphorus removal is also possible under strict aerobic conditions, in which the electron donor (carbon source) and the electron acceptor (oxygen) are present at the same time. The aim of this paper is to review the current knowledge on phosphorus removal under strict aerobic conditions, without the previous anaerobic phase, which was considered essentail. Under strict aerobic conditions, feast and famine phases are visible, which are analogous to conventional anaerobic-aerobic conditions regarding changes in the concentration of volatile fatty acids, glycogen, polyhydroxy alkanoates, and polyphosphate pools. The performance of the process under strict aerobic conditions results in less glycogen stored, polyhydroxy alkanoates synthesized, and a total amount of hydrolyzed polyphosphates. PAO are a very broad group of organisms with different metabolic capabilities, and non-traditional PAO, such as Microthrix parvicella, are probably responsible for phosphorus removal under strict aerobic conditions.
