Abstract

Pojava novootkrivenog koronavirusa SARS-CoV-2 krajem 2019. godine izazvala je globalnu zabrinutost zbog svoje visoke stope smrtnosti, a zbog čega Svjetska zdravstvena organizacija 11. ožujka 2020. godine proglašava globalnu pandemiju bolesti COVID-19. Dok broj zaraženih osoba u svijetu i dalje raste, prioritet brojnih istraživačkih skupina širom svijeta postaje razvoj cjepiva i lijekova protiv COVIDA-19. Potencijalnu djelotvornost u liječenju nove bolesti imaju već odobreni antimikrobni lijekovi, među kojima su antimalarik klorokin i njegov derivat hidroksiklorokin. Stoga je cilj ovog rada opisati moguće mehanizme djelovanja te utjecaj klorokina i hidroksiklorokina na liječenje COVIDA-19 s obzirom na podrijetlo i molekulsku strukturu virusa SARS-CoV-2.

Abstract (english)

The emergence of a novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 at the very end of 2019, has raised global concerns due to its high fatality rate and was declared as a global pandemic by the World Health Organization on 11 March 2020. As the number of infections continues to rise, numerous research groups around the globe have prioritized the identification and development of new COVID-19 treatments. Already approved antimicrobial drugs, including the antimalarial chloroquine and its derivative hydroxychloroquine, have potential promising efficacy in the treatment of COVID-19 disease. Therefore, the aim of this study was to describe the possible mechanisms of action and the influence of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine on the treatment of COVID-19 with respect to the origin and molecular structure of the SARS-CoV-2.
