Abstract

Proučavan je utjecaj različitih koncentracija Ni2+ i Ag2+ iona na pokretljivost, oblik stanice, fotosintezu, koncentraciju klorofila a i b, te ukupnih karotenoida u E. gracilis. Toksičnost teških metala ovisila je o tome jesu li stanice uzgajane u mraku (heterotrofno) ili na svjetlu (autotrofno) tijekom 14 dana. E. gracilis je pokazala pojačanu toleranciju na prisutnost Ni2+ iona (veća gustoća i pokretljivost stanica), kao i bolji fotosintetski kapacitet. Fotosintetski pigmenti i oblik stanica su bili osjetljiviji na prisutnost Ag2+ iona. Rezultati pokazuju da se sposobnost tolerancije na teške metale u E. gracilis razlikuje ovisno o tome uzgajaju li se stanice u mraku ili na svjetlu.

Abstract (english)

The effect of different concentrations of Ni2+ and Ag2+ ions on motility, cell shape, photosynthesis, chlorophyll a and b and total carotenoids content in Euglena gracilis was examined. The toxicity of the heavy metals was dependent on whether cells were grown in the dark (heterotrophy) or under illumination (autotrophy) during 14-d cultivation. E. gracilis cells showed improved heavy metal tolerance to Ni2+ ions (greater cell density and motility) together with better photosynthetic capacity. Photosynthetic pigments and cell shape were found to be more sensitive to Ag2+. Results suggest that the capacity to tolerate heavy metals by E. gracilis may have differences when cells are grown in the dark or under illumination.
