Povezanost sastava tijela, kroničnog stresa i kakvoće prehrane u osoba starije dobi

Abstract

Starenje uzrokuje promjene u sastavu tijela tj. porast udjela masnog tkiva, a gubitak koštane i mišićne mase. Kronični stres s posljedičnom hiperkortizolemijom inducira nakupljanje masnog tkiva u mišićima, kao i gubitak skeletne mišićne mase. Cilj ovog istraživanja je bio procijeniti sastav tijela starijih osoba te utvrditi postoji li povezanost kroničnog stresa i dijetetičkih parametara s komponentama sastava tijela. Ispitanici su bili osobe starije dobi (n=84), prosječne dobi 81,2 ± 6,8 godina. Komponente sastava tijela i parametri kroničnog stresa dobiveni su metodom bioelektrične impedancije s BIA-ACC uređajem, a metoda 24-h prisjećanja unosa hrane i pića je korištena za procjenu prehrambenog unosa. Muškarci su imali statistički značajno veći udio mišićnog tkiva (p<0,001) te veću mineralnu gustoću kosti (p=0,001) u odnosu na žene, a žene su imale statistički značajno veći udio masnog tkiva u odnosu na muškarce (p=0,001). HPA indeks (parametar kroničnog stresa) je statistički značajno pozitivno korelirao s unosom energije (p=0,25), proteina (p=0,29), ukupnih masti (p=0,26) i višestruko nezasićenih masnih kiselina (p=0,24). Rezultati ukazuju na to da veći unos energije i određenih makronutrijenata može pomoći u smanjenju razine kroničnog stresa u osoba starije dobi.

Abstract (english)

Aging causes changes in body composition, with increase in the proportion of adipose tissue, and the loss of bone and muscle mass. Chronic stress with consequent hypercortisolemia induces muscle fat accumulation as well as skeletal muscle mass loss. The aim of this study was to assess the body composition in the elderly and to determine whether there is a association between chronic stress and dietary parameters and body composition components. Subjects were elderly (n=84), mean age 81.2 ± 6.8 years. Body composition components and chronic stress parameters were determined by the bioelectrical impedance method with BIA-ACC device, and the 24-hour recall was used to assess dietary intake. Men had a statistically significantly higher proportion of muscle tissue (p<0.001), and higher bone mineral density (p=0.001) compared to women, and women had higher proportion of adipose tissue compared to men (p=0.001). The HPA index (parameter of chronic stress) was significantly positively correlated with intake of energy (p=0.25), protein (p=0.29), total fat (p=0.26), and polyunsaturated fatty acids (p=0.24). In conclusion, higher intake of energy and some macronutrients could help to lower level of chronic stress in the elderly.
