Abstract

Biljke porodice Lamiaceae bogat su izvor polifenolnih spojeva zbog čega se koriste u tradicionalnoj medicini te se sve više istražuje njihov terapeutski učinak za određene neurodegenerativne kao i kronične bolesti poput dijabetesa tip II i kardiovaskularnih bolesti s ciljem prevencije i liječenja spomenutih bolesti. Prolaskom kroz gastrointestinalni trakt, promjena pH vrijednosti te utjecaj enzima prisutnih u probavi drastično smanjuju biodostupnost polifenolnih spojeva prisutnih u biljkama. Moguće je povećati biodostupnost polifenolnih komponenti emulgiranjem vodenih ekstrakata biljaka. U ovom istraživanju pripremljene su emulzije ulje u vodenom ekstraktu biljaka porodice Lamiaceae uz dodatak emulgatora polietilen glikol (PEG1500, PEG6000, PEG20000). Provedena je in vitro probava uzoraka tekućih i emulgiranih biljnih ekstrakata te su im određena fizikalna (ukupne otopljene tvari, vodljivost) te kemijska svojstva (ukupni polifenoli, antioksidacijska aktivnost). Analizom antioksidacijske aktivnosti nakon završene in vitro probave postignut je veći stupanj očuvanja kod emulgiranih biljnih ekstrakata u odnosu na neemulgirane biljne ekstrakte.

Abstract (english)

Plants belonging to Lamiaceae are rich source of polyphenolic compounds for which they are used in traditional medicine. Their therapeutic effect for treating specific neurodegenerative and chronic conditions such as diabetes mellitus type II and cardiovascular diseases is in focus of scientific research with the aim to prevent and treat the mentioned conditions. During the ingestion through gastrointestinal tract, the pH change and presence of the enzymes in gastrointestinal tract have drastic impact on bioavailability of polyphenolics present in plants. It is possible to increase the bioavailability of polyphenolics by emulsification of plant water extracts. In this research, oil-in-plant water emulsions were prepared from plant extracts of Lamiaceae with the addition of polyethylene glycol (PEG1500, PEG6000, PEG20000). In vitro digestion of plant extracts and emulsified plant extracts was carried out and samples were tested for their physical properties (total dissolved solids and conductivity) and chemical properties (total polyphenolic content, antioxidant activity). Analysis of antioxidant activity after in vitro digestion resulted in a higher degree of preservation in emulsified plant extracts compared to non-emulsified plant extracts.
