Abstract

Jedan od većih izazova s kojim se kemijska i njoj srodne industrije danas suočavaju jest prijelaz na zelene, održive proizvodne procese koji učinkovito koriste sirovine, uklanjaju otpad te izbjegavaju korištenje otrovnih i opasnih materijala. Rastuće količine farmaceutskog otpada u okolišu uzrokovale su neravnotežu u ekosustavu, a također bi mogle imati i kronične štetne učinke na ljude. U ovom radu opisani su glavni problemi i izvori onečišćenja okoliša uzrokovani proizvodnim procesima u farmaceutskoj industriji. Korištenim primjerima, koji su samo neki od uspješnih industrijskih primjena načela zelene kemije, prikazana je korist integracije zelene kemije koja se prvotno bavi prevencijom onečišćenja u dizajniranju proizvodnih procesa, što ujedno donosi ekološku i ekonomsku korist.

Abstract (english)

One of the biggest challenges facing the chemical and related industries today is the transition to environmentally friendly, sustainable production processes that use raw materials efficiently, dispose of waste, and avoid the use of toxic and hazardous substances. The increasing amounts of pharmaceutical waste in the environment have thrown the ecosystem out of balance and may prove to be a cause of chronic human disease. This thesis describes the main problems and sources of environmental pollution caused by the production processes in the pharmaceutical industry. The examples used, which are just some of the successful industrial applications of green chemistry, show the value of integrating such a system, whose main concern is pollution prevention, into the design of production processes, which in turn proves beneficial to both the environment and the economy.
