Abstract

Mikroorganizam iz skupine Oomycetes, Aphanomyces astaci, uzrokuje smrtonosnu bolest račju kugu te je odgovoran za pomore čitavih populacija slatkovodnih rakova u prirodi i akvakulturi. Dosadašnje metode prevencije i liječenja račje kuge uključuju kemikalije štetne za ljudsko zdravlje i okoliš pa je cilj ovog rada bio istražiti djelovanje propolisa, kao ekološki prihvatljive metode, na rast micelija patogena. Inhibicijsko djelovanje propolisa demonstrirano je disk-difuzijskom metodom te je utvrđena inhibicija rasta micelija uzorcima propolisa od 40 %. Potom su eksperimentalno određene EC50-vrijednosti, odnosno koncentracije potrebne za postizanje 50 %-inhibicije koje su iznosile 5,6 odnosno 8,9 μg/mL za uzorke propolisa te 2,6 μg/mL za krizin, dominantni flavonoid u uzorcima propolisa. Ovo istraživanje demonstriralo je i kvantificiralo antioomicetno djelovanje propolisa te dobiveni rezultati otvaraju mogućnost korištenja propolisa kao komercijalnog antioomicetnog agensa u akvakulturi.

Abstract (english)

The microorganism Aphanomyces astaci (Oomycetes) causes the lethal disease crayfish plague and is responsible for the decline of freshwater crayfish populations in nature and in aquaculture. Conventional methods of preventing and treating the disease use chemicals that are harmful to human health and the environment. The aim of this study was therefore to test the effect of propolis as an environmentally friendly method on the pathogen mycelial growth. The inhibitory effect of propolis on the growth of the mycelium was demonstrated by the disk-diffusion method, and the inhibition of mycelial growth was achieved by propolis concentration of about 40%. Subsequently, the EC50 values, i.e. the concentrations required to achieve 50% inhibition, were experimentally determined to be 5.6 and 8.9 μg/mL for propolis samples and 2.6 μg/mL for chrysin, the dominant flavonoid in propolis. The results of this study open up the possibility of using propolis as a commercial antioomycetic in aquaculture.
