Abstract

SARS-CoV-2, pripadnik obitelji koronavirusa, pojavio se u prosincu 2019. uzrokujući respiratornu bolest COVID-19, a zbog njegovog iznimno brzog širenja diljem svijeta ubrzo je proglašena pandemija te bolesti. Osim cjepiva i lijekova, znanstvena zajednica započela je intenzivno istraživanje brzih, jeftinih i pouzdanih testova za detekciju virusa. U ovom završnom radu opisane su spektroskopske metode njegove detekcije: spektroskopija nuklearne magnetske rezonancije (NMR), masena spektrometrija (MS) i infracrvena spektroskopija (IR). Spektroskopija nuklearne magnetske rezonancije najpouzdanija je metoda za određivanje kemijske strukture organskih i anorganskih molekula, a zasniva se na rezonanciji jezgara s neparnim atomskim brojem pri čemu se bilježi signal čiji kemijski pomak ovisi o kemijskoj okolini istraživane atomske jezgre, a površina ispod signala odgovara broju kemijski ekvivalentnih jezgri. Masenom spektrometrijom određuje se relativna masa i količina iona nastalih ionizacijom atoma i molekula te raspadom ioniziranih molekula nekog uzorka. Infracrvena spektroskopija je metoda koja koristi infracrveno područje elektromagnetskog spektra za detekciju funkcijskih skupina u spoju.

Abstract (english)

SARS-CoV-2, a member of the coronavirus family, emerged in December 2019 and caused COVID-19 disease. Due to its extremely rapid spread around the world, a pandemic was declared soon after. In addition to vaccines and drugs, the scientific community has begun intensive research into rapid, cheap, and reliable tests to detect the virus. Spectroscopic detection methods are described in this work: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR), Mass Spectrometry (MS), and Infrared Spectroscopy (IR). Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy is the most reliable method for determining the chemical structure of organic and inorganic molecules. It is based on the resonance of nuclei with an odd atomic number, and the chemical shift of the so-obtained signal depends on the chemical environment of the atomic nucleus under study, while the area under the signal corresponds to the number of chemically equivalent nuclei. Mass Spectrometry is used to determine the relative mass and amount of ions formed by the ionization of atoms and molecules and by the decay of ionized molecules in a sample. Infrared Spectroscopy is a method that uses the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum to determine the functional groups in a compound.
