Abstract

Poznato je da fitokemikalije imaju pozitivan utjecaj na zdravlje, no podaci o njihovom unosu u populaciji djece osnovnoškolske dobi su manjkavi. Stoga je cilj ovog rada bio procijeniti unos fitokemikalija u djece osnovnoškolske dobi na području grada Zagreba. U istraživanje je bilo uključeno 195 djece, dobi 8,9 (8,6 - 9,2) godina. Prehrambeni unos procijenjen je pomoću trodnevnih dnevnika prehrane te Indeksom za procjenu unosa fitokemikalija prehranom (engl. Dietary Phytochemical Index, DPI). Utvrđen je prosječan dnevni unos polifenola (706,53 mg), karotenoida (3179,65μg), glukozinolata (2,34 mg) i fitosterola (126,05 mg). Prosječan broj bodova dobiven Indeksom za procjenu unosa fitokemikalija prehranom iznosio je 11,8 (7,7 – 16,2). Rezultati su pokazali kako djeca unose najviše polifenola i fitosterola, a najmanje glukozinolata. Voće i žitarice su kao skupine namirnica najviše doprinijele unosu fitokemikalija, dok je povrće imalo nešto manji doprinos. Rezultati pokazuju da djevojčice unose više namirnica koje doprinose DPI-u od dječaka, no nije utvrđena razlika u udjelu djece unutar pojedinih tercila ostvarenih DPI bodova s obzirom na stupanj obrazovanja roditelja te kućanske prihode.

Abstract (english)

It is well known that phytochemicals have a positive impact on health, but data on their intake in the population of primary school children are lacking. Therefore, the aim of this work was to assess the intake of phytochemicals in primary school children in the city of Zagreb. 195 children, aged 8.9 (8.6 - 9.2) years, were included in the research. Dietary intake was assessed using three-day food diaries and Dietary Phytochemical Index (DPI). The average intake of polyphenols, carotenoids, glucosinolates and phytosterols was determined, and was 706.53 mg, 3179.65 μg, 2.34 mg, and 126.05 mg per day, respectively. The average Dietary Phytochemical Index score was 11.8 (7.7 – 16.2). The results showed that polyphenols and phytosterols were consumed the most and glucosinolates the least. As food groups, fruits and cereals contributed the most to the intake of phytochemicals, while vegetables contributed slightly less. The results showed that girls consumed more foods contributing to DPI than boys, but no difference was found in the proportion of children within each tercile of DPI score achieved in relation to parental education level and household income.
