Abstract

Završni rad Pretilost je vrlo učestala bolest današnjice koja je povezana s nizom bolesti. Manjak mikronutrijenata i malnutricija mogu uzrokovati dodatne metaboličke poremećaje te pogoršati postojeće komplikacije pretilosti. Usprkos povećanom unosu energije u osoba s pretilosti, često se uočava malnutricija, stoga je cilj ovog rada bio ispitati nutritivni status s posebnim osvrtom na status vitamina B₁₂ i folata kod osoba s pretilosti. U istraživanju je sudjelovalo 105 ispitanika, čiji su antropometrijski i biokemijski podatci prikupljeni prilikom posjeta u endokrinološkoj ambulanti ili tijekom dnevne bolnice KBC Zagreb. Prosječni indeks tjelesne mase pacijenata iznosio je 43,4 kg/m² te je najviše ispitanika svrstano u III. stupanj pretilosti. Adekvatan status vitamina B₁₂ zabilježen je u 61 % pacijenata, dok je adekvatan status folne kiseline zabilježen kod 51 % ispitanika, te neadekvatan lipidni profil u većine ispitanika. Suplementaciju vitaminom B₁₂ koristilo je 20 %, a folnom kiselinom 11 % ispitanika. Ispitivanjem korelacija, uočena je slaba negativna povezanost folne kiseline u serumu i udjela ukupne tjelesne masne mase. S obzirom na rastući problem pretilosti, popratne komplikacije i prisutnost malnutricije, naglašava se važnost adekvatnog statusa vitamina B₁₂ i folata.

Abstract (english)

Obesity is a very common disease nowadays tied to various diseases. A deficiency of micronutrients and malnutrition can cause additional metabolic disorders and worsen existing complications of obesity. Despite the increased energy intake, malnutrition is often found in patients with obesity, thus, the aim of this work was to examine the nutritional status of vitamin B₁₂ and folate in patients with obesity. The study included 105 participants, whose anthropometrical and biochemical data were gathered during their visit to the endocrinology clinic or during hospital visits at KBC Zagreb. The average body mass index of the patients was 43,4 kg/m² and the majority of participants were classified as having a III. degree of obesity. The adequate status of vitamin B₁₂ is found in 61 % while the adequate status of folate is found in 51 % of participants, and the lipid profile is inadequate in most of the participants. Supplementation of vitamin B₁₂ was used by 20 % and folic acid by 11 % of the participants. By testing the correlations, it was spotted that there was a weak negative correlation between folic acid and the percentage of total fat mass. Given the growing problem of obesity, accompanying complications and the presence of malnutrition, the importance of adequate vitamin B₁₂ and folate status is emphasised.
