Abstract

Osteoporoza je uzrok povećanog morbiditeta i glavni klinički problem zapadne civilizacije. Rezultati određenih studija ukazuju na pozitivan utjecaj unosa voća i povrća, odnosno antioksidativnih komponenti iz voća i povrća, sa mineralnom gustoćom kostiju (BMD). Cilj ovog rada bio je istražiti povezanost unosa voća i povrća sa BMD u fertilnih i postmenopauzalnih žena. U studiju je uključeno 155 ispitanica (63 fertilnih i 92 postmenopauzalnih), dobi 25-90 godina. Korištene su slijedeće metode: Dijetetičke (višestruko 24-satno prisjećanje), denzitrometrija (DXA, mjerenje mineralne gustoće kosti), antropometrijske (tjelesna masa, tjelesna visina, opseg struka i bokova) i opći upitnik. U fertilnih žena utvrđena je statistički značajna (p<0,05) negativna korelacija između unosa vitamina K vs. T-vrijednosti bedrene kosti. U postmenopauzalnih žena utvrđena je statistički značajna (p<0,05) pozitivna korelacija između: selena vs. T-vrijednosti lumbalne kralježnice te dnevnog unosa voća i povrća vs. T-vrijednosti vrata bedrene kosti i T-vrijednosti bedrene kosti. Iako se očekuje da prehrana bogata voćem i povrćem ublažava gubitak kalcija i ima zaštitno antioksidativno (vitamin C i β karoten) djelovanje na BMD rezultati ne upućuju na jednoznačni zaključak, što može biti posljedica nešto slabije homogenosti ispitanica s obzirom na dob.

Abstract (english)

Osteoporosis is the cause of increased morbidity and a major clinical problem of Western civilization. Results of some studies suggest a positive effect of fruit and vegetable intake, and antioxidant components in fruits and vegetables, with bone mineral density (BMD). The aim of this study was to investigate whether there is a connection between fruit and vegetable intake with bone mineral density in fertile and postmenopausal women. The study included 155 subjects (63 fertile and 92 postmenopausal women), aged 25-90 years. The following methods were used: dietary (multiple 24-hour recall), densitometry (DXA measurement of bone mineral density), anthropometric (body weight, height, waist and hips) and a general questionnaire. In fertile women we found statistically significant (p < 0.05), negative correlation, between dietary intake of vitamin K vs. T values of the femur. At postmenopausal women we found statistically significant (p < 0.05), positive correlation, between: selenium vs. T-score of the lumbar spine and between dietary intake of fruits and vegetables vs. T-score of femoral neck and femur. Although it is expected that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables reduces calcium loss and has a protective antioxidant (vitamin C and β -carotene) effect on BMD but results do not indicate an unambiguous conclusion, which may be due to poorer homogeneity of subjects according to age.
