Abstract

Ginkgo biloba je biljka koja se, zbog svog širokog raspona ljekovitih i terapijskih svojstava, koristi kao alternativni lijek u liječenju brojnih indikacija. Smatra se da je temelj njenog terapijskog djelovanja visoka antioksidacijska aktivnost njenih spojeva. Starenje te okolišni i dijetetski ksenobiotici mogu uzrokovati nagomilavanje slobodnih radikala koji dovode do oksidacijskog stresa, oštećenja i smrti stanice. Bubrezi su izloženi nizu ksenobiotika koji mogu uzrokovati oksidacijska oštećenja. Cilj ovog istraživanja je bio ispitati nefroprotektivni učinak tri suplemenata Ginkgo bilobe tretiranjem štakora Y59 kroz 30 dana. Rezultati su pokazali statistički značajno (ANOVA, p<0.05) povećanje aktivnosti antioksidacijskih enzima SOD (superoksid dismutaza) i CAT (katalaza) te GSH (reduciranog glutationa) u bubrezima štakora tretiranih suplementima Ginkgo biloba i Ginkgo ALERT što ukazuje na njihov protektivni antioksidacijski efekt. Ovi dodaci prehrani su također značajno snizili koncentracije MDA (malondialdehida). Suprotan efekt je imao suplement Vulkan, biljni lijek za impotenciju koji je statistički značajno (ANOVA, p<0.05) smanjio aktivnost antioksidacijskih enzima i povećao koncentraciju MDA što ukazuje na oksidacijski stres.

Abstract (english)

Ginkgo biloba is an herb that is, due to its wide range of medicinal and therapeutic properties, used as an alternative medicine to treat numerous indications. It is considered that the foundation of its therapeutic effect is high antioxidant activity of its compounds. Aging and environmental and dietary xenobiotics can cause a buildup of free radicals that lead to oxidative stress, damage and cell death. Kidneys are exposed to a number of xenobiotics that can cause oxidative damage. The aim of this research was to investigate the possible nephroprotective effect of three Ginkgo biloba supplements in Y59 rats after treatment, which lasted for 30 days. The results showed statistically significant (ANOVA, p <0.05) increase in the activity of antioxidant enzymes SOD (superoxide dismutase) and CAT (catalase) and the concentration of GSH (reduced glutathione) in kidneys of rats treated with Ginkgo biloba and Ginkgo ALERT. It indicates their protective antioxidant effect. These supplements significantly decreased MDA levels (malondialdehyde). The opposite effect had supplement Vulkan, herbal medicine for impotence, which statistically significant (ANOVA, p <0.05) decreased activities of antioxidant enzymes and increased MDA concentrations indicating oxidative stress.
