Abstract

Za brzi i učinkoviti imunosni odgovor na patogene mikroorganizme imunosni sustav mora biti razvijen i zreo. Na učinkovitost znatno utječe i prehrana te adekvatan unos hranjivih tvari. Novorođenačad nema zreli imunosni sustav, ali majčino mlijeko sadrži brojne stanice, topljive komponente i druge faktore koji izravno ili posredno jačaju imunosni sustav dojenčeta. Veliki doprinos jačanju imunosnog sustava dojenčeta ima i sastav hranjivih tvari u majčinom mlijeku koje osigurava adekvatan unos energije, vode i svih nutrijenata potrebnih za rast i razvoj, stoga se ono uzima kao ‘zlatni standard’ prehrane dojenčadi. Hranjenje majčinim mlijekom rezultira u smanjenoj incidenciji i prevalenciji bolesti te kraćem vremenskom periodu trajanja bolesti uslijed jačanja imunosnog sustava dojenčeta.

Abstract (english)

For a quick and efficient response of the immune system to pathogens, the immune system must be fully developed and mature. Diet and avaliability of nutrients plays a significant role in its efficiency. Newborns don't have mature immune systems, but breast milk contains numerous cells, soluble components and various other factors that diertcly or indirectly strengthen the immunity of an infant. The composition of nutrients in breastmilk also greatly conributes towards the strengtheing of the immune system. It provides an adquate source of energy, water and all nutrients necessary for growth and development, and therefore it is considered to be the ‘golden standard’ in the diet of an infant. Breast feeding results in a lower indcidence and prevalence of illness, and a shorter priod of duration of the disease as a consequence of a strengthened immune response of an infant.
