Abstract

Sve većom oskudicom vode u svijetu i globalnim zatopljenjem pojavljuje se potreba za novim izvorima pitke vode. Desalinizacija je proces uklanjanja soli i drugih minerala iz morske i bočate vode radi dobivanja pitke vode za stanovništvo i navodnjavanje. Proces desalinizacije se dijeli na dva osnovna procesa: termalni i membranski proces. Termalni procesi se koriste u zemljama bogatima energijom poput zemalja bliskog istoka dok membranski procesi u zadnje vrijeme sve više zamjenjuju termalne procese zbog manje potrebe za energijom i većim iskorištenjem. Sam process desalinizacije je skup, ali napretkom tehnologije zadnjih godina se cijena uporabe desalinizacijskih postrojenja smanjuje te sve više postaju komercijalno pristupačna. Problemi ove tehnologije se nalaze u velikoj količini koncentrata koji se stvara prilikom obrade vode i njegovim ispuštanjem u okoliš te velikim utroškom enregije što je problem ako se energija dobiva izgaranjem fosilnih goriva radi ispuštanja stakleničkih plinova.

Abstract (english)

The increasing scarcity of water in the world and due to global warming the need for new sources of drinking water is getting more important. Desalination is the process of removing salt and other minerals from seawater and and brackish water to obtain drinking water for the population and irrigation. The desalination process is divided into two basic processes: the thermal and the membrane process. Thermal processes are being used in energy-rich countries such as the Middle East countries, while membrane processes have recently been increasingly replacing thermal processes due to less energy consumption and greater utilization. The desalination process itself is expensive, but with the advancement of technology in recent years, the cost of using desalination plants has decreased and they are becoming more commercially available. The problems of this technology lies in the large amount of concentrate that is created during the treatment of water and its discharge into the environment, and the high consumption of energy, which is a problem if energy is obtained by burning fossil fuels which releases greenhouse gases.
