Abstract

Kratkolančane masne kiseline (SCFA) nastaju bakterijskom fermentacijom neprobavljivih komponenata hrane u gastrointestinalnom traktu. Najzastupljenije bakterije koje proizvode kratkolančane masne kiseline su iz odjeljaka Bacteroidetes i Firmicutes. Kratkolančane masne kiseline predstavljaju poveznicu između crijevne mikrobiote i imunosnog sustava. Imaju bitnu ulogu u održavanju crijevne homeostaze i izvor su energije intestinalnim epitelnim stanicama. Kratkolančane masne kiseline djeluju na dva načina, aktivacijom G proteinskih receptora i inhibicijom histonske deacetilaze. Imaju protuupalni i antimikrobni učinak. Ovaj rad daje pregled utjecaja kratkolančanih masnih kiselina na različite komponente imunosnog sustava i mehanizame kojima se postiže imunumodulacijski učinak.

Abstract (english)

Short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) are produced by bacterial fermentation of indigestible food components in the gastrointestinal tract. The two most common phyla of short-chain fatty acids producing bacteria are Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes. Short-chain fatty acids are the link between the intestinal microbiota and the immune system. They play an essential role in maintaining intestinal homeostasis and are a source of energy to intestinal epithelial cells. Short-chain fatty acids act in two ways, by activating G protein receptors and by inhibiting histone deacetylases. They have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effect. This paper provides an overview of the influence of short-chain fatty acids on various components of the immune system and the mechanisms by which the immunomodulatory effect is achieved.
