Abstract

Pretilost je prepoznata kao jedan od najvećih javnozdravstvenih problema današnjice, a podaci o pretilosti i prehrambenim navikama u Hrvata po tom pitanju nisu optimistični. Znanje o hrani i prehrani je neupitno važan čimbenik po pitanju pravilnog prehrambenog ponašanja. Cilj ovog rada bio je ispitati postoji li razlika u znanju: između studenata biotehničkih i biomedicinskih znanosti te studenata tehničkih znanosti; između spolova; te u skupini studenata tehničkih znanosti s obzirom na indeks tjelesne mase. Za procjenu znanja korišten je modificirani „Opći upitnik o prehrani“ od Kliemann i sur. (2016). Rezultati su pokazali bolje znanje kod studenata biotehničkih i biomedicinskih znanosti u odnosu na studente tehničkih znanosti, zatim bolje znanje žena u odnosu na muškarce te podjednako znanje unutar skupine studenata tehničkih znanosti s obzirom na vrijednosti indeksa tjelesna mase. Rezultati ukazuju kako je edukacija studenata o hrani i prehrani potrebna, a ona neće biti isključivo radi prevencije pretilosti već i radi očuvanja njihovog zdravlja.

Abstract (english)

Obesity is known as one of the biggest public issue of today and, in that sense, data on weight status and dietary habits of Croats don't look optimistic. Without a doubt, nutrition knowledge is an important factor when it comes to healthy dietary choices. Aim of this study was to assess whether there is a difference in nutrition knowledge: between students of biotehnical and biomedicine sciences and those of technical sciences; between gender; and among the students of technical sciences based on their body mass index. Modified version of „The General Nutrition Knowledge Questionnaire“ by Kliemann et. al (2016) was used to assess nutrition knowledge. Students of biotehnical and biomedical sciences had better nutrition knowledge compared to students of technical sciences. Same goes for women compared to men, but knowledge among the group of technical sciences didn't differ according to their body mass index. Results of this study suggest that nutrition education of students is not only necessary to prevent obesity but to secure their wellbeing.
