Abstract

Hashimotov tireoiditis je kronična, autoimuna bolest štitnjače i glavni uzročnik hipotireoze u razvijenim zemljama. Uz nadomjesnu terapiju, odgovarajuća prehrana i ciljana suplementacija mogu značajno utjecati na smanjenje simptoma. Cilj ovog rada bio je putem anketnog upitnika ispitati prehrambene navike oboljelih od Hashimotovog tireoiditisa te subjektivnu procjenu utjecaja bezglutenske prehrane na simptome bolesti. Anketu je ispunilo 1045 ispitanika, a 340 ih je navelo da slijede bezglutensku prehranu. Ispitanici su primijetili najveći utjecaj provođenja bezglutenske prehrane na simptome općeg umora i pospanosti. Uz to, utvrđena je i statistički značajna povezanost između indeksa tjelesna mase i bezglutenske prehrane. Analizom prehrambenih navika utvrđeno je da većina oboljelih ne unosi preporučene količine voća i povrća, kao ni ribe i morskih plodova. Nadalje, utvrđeno je da ispitanici češće konzumiraju rafinirane proizvode u odnosu na cjelovite. Oboljele bi trebalo upozoriti na moguće rizike koje nosi eliminacijska dijeta te ih educirati o učincima protuupalne prehrane bogate vitaminima i mineralima.

Abstract (english)

Hashimoto's thyroiditis is a chronic, autoimmune thyroid disease and the main cause of hypothyroidism in developed countries. In addition to replacement therapy, appropriate nutrition and targeted supplementation can significantly reduce the symptoms. The aim of this work was to examine the dietary habits of patients suffering from Hashimoto’s and to subjectively assess the impact of a gluten-free diet on the symptoms of the disease using a questionnaire. The questionnaire was completed by 1045 respondents, and 340 of them follow a gluten-free diet. The examinees noticed the greatest impact of the gluten-free diet on symptoms of general fatigue and sleepiness. In addition, a statistically significant relationship between body mass index and gluten-free diet was established. An analysis of dietary habits found that most patients do not consume the recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables, as well as fish and seafood. Furthermore, it was established that examinees consume refined products more often than whole-food products. People afflicted with Hashimoto’s should be warned about the possible risks of elimination diets and educated about the effects of an anti-inflammatory diet rich in vitamins and minerals.
