Abstract

Onečišćenje vodnih tijela može imati ozbiljne posljedice za okoliš i ljudsko zdravlje, jedna od kojih je eutrofikacija rijeka. Dušikovi se spojevi iz otpadne vode najčešće uklanjaju biološkom denitrifikacijom, koja zahtijeva izvor ugljika kao donor elektrona. Odabir izvora ugljika važan je zbog svojeg utjecaja na stopu denitrifikacije, učinkovitosti uklanjanja nitrata i strukturu mikrobiološke zajednice. Komercijalno dostupni izvori ugljika predstavljaju značajan trošak, stoga se istražuju alternativni izvori. Potencijalni povoljniji alternativni izvora ugljika su organski otpad i otpadna voda prehrambene industrije, obzirom na visok sadržaj organskih spojeva.

Abstract (english)

Water pollution can have serious consequences for the environment and human health, one of which is river eutrophication. Nitrogen compounds are most often removed from wastewater by the process of biological denitrification, which requires a carbon source as an electron donor. The choice of carbon source is important because of its influence on the rate of denitrification, the efficiency of nitrate removal and the structure of the microbial community. Commercially available carbon sources present a significant cost, which is why alternative sources are being explored. Organic waste and wastewater from the food industry are potential more favorable alternative sources of carbon, given their high content of organic compounds.
