Abstract

Selen je esencijalni mikronutrijent uključen u sintezu različitih selenoproteina, a u organizam ga unosimo putem različitih prehrambenih izvora ili suplementacijom. Ovaj element ima brojne fiziološke učinke, međutim potreban je oprez. Selen pri adekvatnom unosu pokazuje pozitivne učinke na zdravlje, no prekomjeran ili nedovoljan unos mogu dovesti do poremećaja u radu organizma i posljedično do razvoja različitih bolesti. Cilj ovoga rada je istražiti učinak selena na ljudski organizam – od same prisutnosti selena u okolišu i u prehrambenim izvorima, pa do metabolizma selena u organizmu. U ovom radu objedinjena su istraživanja koja prikazuju posljedice neadekvatnog unosa selena i predložene mjere kako bi se posljedice takvoga unosa prevenirale.

Abstract (english)

Selenium is an essential micronutrient that is involved in the synthesis of various selenopro teins and is supplied to the body via various foods or food supplements. This element has numerous physiological effects, but caution is advised. An adequate intake of selenium has a positive effect on health, but an excessive or insufficient intake can lead to disorders in the functioning of the body and thus to the development of various diseases. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the effect of sele nium on the human body - from the occurrence of selenium in the environment and in food to the metabolism of selenium in the body. This thesis summarises studies showing the consequences of inadequate selenium intake and suggested measures to prevent the consequences of such intake.
