Abstract

Posljednjih godina raste interes potrošača za funkcionalnu kozmetiku i dermatokozmetiku. Navedene grupe proizvoda sadrže aktivne komponente kao što su probiotici i biljni ekstrakti s visokim sadržajem flavonoida, polifenola i vitamina te kao takvi pokazuju sposobnost poboljšanja različitih stanja kože. Različite neistražene vrste probiotika i postbiotika potencijalne su aktivne komponente u proizvodnji kozmetičkih pripravaka. Stoga je cilj ovoga
rada bio izraditi funkcionalni kozmetički pripravak uz dodatak probiotičke kulture Lactiplantibacillus plantarium S1 te vodenog ekstrakta maginje (Arbutus unedo L.) te ispitati njegov antimikrobni potencijal, sposobnost inhibicije formiranja biofilmova patogene Candida albicans ATCC®10231™, sposobnost koagregacije s istim patogenom te antioksidacijski potencijal pri uklanjanju DPPH slobodnih radikala. Dobiveni rezultati pokazali su kako stanice Lpb. plantarum S1 značajno inhibiraju formaciju biofilmova C. albicans i rast ovog patogena. Također, dodatak vodenog ekstrakta maginje u uzorak kreme uvelike je povećao antioksidacijsku sposobnost uklanjanja DPPH slobodnih radikala ovog pripravka.

Abstract (english)

Abstract: In recent years, there has been a growing interest among consumers in functional cosmetics and dermocosmetics. These product groups contain active components such as probiotics and plant extracts with high contents of flavonoids, polyphenols, and vitamins, and as such, they show the ability to improve various skin conditions. Various unexplored types of probiotics and postbiotics are potential active components in the production of cosmetic preparations. Therefore, the aim of this study was to create a functional cosmetic preparation with the addition of the probiotic culture Lactiplantibacillus plantarum S1 and an aqueous extract of strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo L.) and to examine its antimicrobial potential, its ability to inhibit biofilm formation by the pathogen Candida albicans ATCC®10231™, its coaggregation ability with the same pathogen, and its antioxidant potential in scavenging DPPH free radicals. The obtained results showed that Lpb. plantarum S1 cells significantly inhibit the formation of C. albicans biofilms and the growth of this pathogen. Additionally, the addition of the aqueous extract of strawberry tree to the cream sample greatly increased the antioxidant ability to scavenge DPPH free radicals of this preparation.
