Abstract

Rod Streptomyces obuhvaća široku skupinu bakterija ključnih za razgradnju organskih tvari, fiksaciju dušika i proizvodnju važnih kemijskih spojeva. Pojedini pripadnici ove skupine imaju značajan genetski i metabolički potencijal za primjenu u farmaceutici. Navedene bakterije proizvode različite antibiotike, što ih čini ključnima u borbi protiv patogena, no prekomjerna upotreba antibiotika dovodi do razvoja otpornosti, naglašavajući potrebu za otkrivanjem novih sojeva ili alternativnih terapija. Bakterije roda Streptomyces dio su mikrosfere tla i imaju važnu ulogu u biološkim ciklusima tvari. Cilj rada bio je izolirati divlje sojeve bakterija roda Streptomyces, morfološki ih okarakterizirati, ispitati antimikrobna i koagregativna svojstva, te sposobnost inhibicije biofilmova patogena pomoću izvanstaničnih metabolita. Dobiveni rezultati pokazuju kako je najbolje antimikrobno djelovanje imao soj IM2, inhibirajući rast Escherichia coli za 31,5%. Također izolati roda Streptomyces postigli su najveći postotak inhibicije formacije biofilma kod E. coli koji je iznosio 88,5%.

Abstract (english)

The genus Streptomyces encompasses a wide group of bacteria that are crucial for the decomposition of organic matter, nitrogen fixation, and the production of important chemical compounds. Certain members of this group have significant genetic and metabolic potential for application in pharmaceuticals. These bacteria produce various antibiotics, making them key in the fight against pathogens. However, the excessive use of antibiotics leads to the development of resistance, highlighting the need for the discovery of new strains or alternative therapies. Streptomyces bacteria are part of the soil microenvironment and play an important role in the biological cycles of substances. The aim of this study was to isolate wild strains of Streptomyces bacteria, morphologically characterize them, examine their antimicrobial and coaggregative properties, and their ability to inhibit pathogenic biofilms using extracellular metabolites. The obtained results show that the strain IM2 had the best antimicrobial activity, inhibiting the growth of Escherichia coli by 31.5%. Additionally, Streptomyces isolates achieved the highest percentage of biofilm formation inhibition in E. coli, amounting to 88.5%.
