Abstract

Sindrom iritabilnog crijeva (IBS) funkcionalni je poremećaj crijeva koji se javlja kao poremećaj oblika i/ili učestalosti stolice uz bolove u abdomenu i nadutost. Cilj ovog rada je pregledom dostupne literature istražiti učinkovitost bezglutenske prehrane u liječenju sindrom iritabilnog crijeva u usporedbi s drugim dijetama. U tu svrhu pretražene su baze „PubMed“ i „Web of Science“ određenim ključnim riječima i korištenjem eliminacijskih kriterija, čime je identificirano 5 studija koje su uključene u analizu. Rezultati su pokazali različitu učinkovitost bezglutenske prehrane; u određenim studijama pokazala se učinkovitijom u liječenju simptoma IBS-a, a u nekima manje učinkovitom u usporedbi s drugim dijetama. Bezglutenska dijeta pokazala se pogodnom u liječenju simptoma IBS-a kod dijela pacijenata poboljšavajući fizičke simptome kao i mentalno zdravlje i kvalitetu života pacijenata, no zbog heterogenosti rezultata njezino korištenje u svrhu liječenja IBS-a nije u potpunosti opravdano te su potrebna daljnja istraživanja.

Abstract (english)

Irritable bowel syndrome is a functional bowel disorder characterized by changes in the form and/or frequency of stool, abdominal pain and bloating. The aim of this paper is to review the available literature to investigate the effectiveness of a gluten-free diet in treating IBS compared to other diets. For that purpose, databases "PubMed" and "Web of Science" were searched. By using keywords and elimination criteria five studies were identified and included in the analysis. The results showed varying effectiveness of the gluten-free diet; in certain studies, it was shown to be more effective in treating IBS symptoms, while in others, it was less effective compared to other diets. The gluten-free diet proved beneficial in treating IBS symptoms for some patients, improving both physical symptoms and mental health as well as the quality of life. However, due to the heterogeneity of the results, its use as a treatment for IBS is not entirely justified and further research is needed.
