Abstract

Nar (Punica granatum L.) je drevno voće koje se često konzumira kao svježe voće i sok. Studije in vivo i in vitro pokazale su da plod nara posjeduje antioksidativna, antibakterijska, antikancerogena, antidijabetička i antiupalna svojstva. Plod također poboljšava kardiovaskularno i oralno zdravlje. Navedeni fiziološki efekti mogu imati preventivne učinke u patologiji različitih bolesti, kao što je primjerice ateroskleroza. Zdravstvene pogodnosti nara pripisuju se širokom spektru prisutnih fitokemikalija, pretežno polifenola. Cilj ovog rada bio je dati pregled bioaktivnih komponenti nara i njihov utjecaj na zdravlje, osobito na kardiovaskularni sustav i antioksidativni status.

Abstract (english)

Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) is an ancient fruit that is widely consumed as fresh fruit and juice. In vitro and in vivo studies have demonstrated that this fruit has an antioxidant, antibacterial, anticarcinogenic, antidiabetic and antiinflammatory properties. The fruit also improves cardiovascular and oral health. These beneficial physiological effects may also have preventive applications in pathology of many diseases, such as atherosclerosis. The health benefits of pomegranate are attributed to its wide range of phytochemicals, which are predominantly polyphenols. The aim of this study was an overview pomegranate bioactive components and their impact on human health, especially on the cardiovascular system and antioxidant status.
