Abstract

Šećerna bolest postala je epidemija modernog doba te je svake godine sve veći broj oboljelih. Osnovu liječenja i reguliranja bolesti čine prehrana, tjelesna aktivnost, medikamentna terapija i edukacija bolesnika i njihovih obitelji. Cilj ovog rada bio je antropometrijskim i dijetetičkim metodama procijeniti prehrambeni status, unos makro i mikronutrijenata s posebnim osvrtom na unos folata i kalcija, te prehrambene navike pet pacijenata oboljelih od dijabetesa tipa 2. Analizom podataka je zaključeno da je unos proteina zadovoljavajući, dok je unos ugljikohidrata manji, a masti nešto veći od prehrambenog referentnog unosa (DRI). Unos mikronutrijenata, izuzev vitamina A, čiji je unos najmanji, je u skladu s preporukama. Utvrđeno je da ispitanici unose dovoljno folata i kalcija koji može povoljno utjecati na metabolizam glukoze. Ispitanici ne preskaču obroke, unose dovoljno tekućine, međutim utvrđeno je da ih je potrebno dodatno motivirati na tjelesnu aktivnost koja poboljšava toleranciju glukoze, povećava inzulinsku osjetljivost i smanjuje tjelesnu masu.

Abstract (english)

Diabetes has become an epidemic of the modern age and has each year an increasing number of patients. The basis of treatment and the regulation of the disease are diet, physical activity, medical treatment and the education of patients and their families. The aim of this study was to assess, through anthropometric and dietetic methods, the nutritional status, macro and micronutrients intake, with special emphasis on folate and calcium intake, and dietary habits of five patients with type 2 diabetes. Data analysis has shown that protein intake was adequate, while the carbohydrate intake was lower, and the intake of fat slightly higher than the DRI recommendations. The intake of micronutrients, except vitamin A, whose intake was the lowest, is in the accordance with the recommendations. It was found that patients get enough folate and calcium, which may be beneficial in optimizing glucose metabolism. Patients do not skip meals and get enough fluid, however, it was determined that they need further motivation for physical activity which improves glucose tolerance, increases insulin sensitivity and reduces body weight.
