Abstract

Bazga i majčina dušica su ljekovite biljke kojima se zbog visoke koncentracije fenolnih spojeva pripisuje antimikrobno djelovanje. Kako su podaci o utjecaju biološki aktivnih spojeva majčine dušice i cvijeta bazge oskudni, cilj ovog rada je bio ispitati utjecaj sastojaka njihovih ekstrakata na rast patogenog kvasca Candida albicans. Istraživanja su provedena sa uzorcima majčine dušice te cvijeta kultivirane i samonikle bazge ubranih na različitim geografskim područjima Republike Hrvatske. Inhibicija rasta kvasca odabranim ekstraktima istraživana je primjenom turbidimetrijske metode te je na osnovi dobivenih rezultata istraživanja donesen zaključak o njihovom antimikrobnom djelovanju. Najveća koncentracija ukupnih fenola određena je za ekstrakt majčine dušice i kod suhog cvijeta bazge ubrane na području Zagreba s obzirom na ostale uzorke ekstrakata bazge. Rezultati turbidimetrijske metode pokazuju da ekstrakt bazge ubran na podrucju Like već nakon 2 sata pokazuje znatan porast stupnja inhibicije na rast ispitivanog kvasca Candida albicans. Ostali ekstrakti nakon 4 sata imaju podjednako antimikrobno djelovanje iako imaju različite koncentracije ukupnih fenola. Pretpostavka je da svi fenolni spojevi nemaju ista antimikrobna svojstva

Abstract (english)

Elder and thyme are herbs that are due to high concentrations of phenolic compounds attributed to antimicrobial activity. Since data the influence of biologically active compounds of elder and thyme is scarce, the aim of this thesis was to determine the influence of extract ingredients on the growth of pathogenic yeast Candida albicans. Research has been conducted on samples of thyme and both wild and cultivated elder flower harvested in various geographical areas in the Republic of Croatia. Inhibition of yeast growth through selected extracts was determined by the turbidimetric method. Based on results obtained through this research, a conclusion on their antimicrobial properties was adopted. The highest concentration of phenol in total was determined for extracts of thyme and for dry flower of elder found in Zagreb, in comparison to all other samples of elder extract. The results of the turbidimetric method indicate that elder extract picked in Lika displays a significant increase in the degree of inhibition of growth on Candida albicanis after only two hours. After four hours, other three extracts have almost the same antimicrobial properties although they all have different concentration of phenols in total. The assumption is that not all of phenolic compounds have the same antimicrobial properties.
