Abstract

Kukuruzni oklasci mogu se koristiti kao lako dostupna obnovljiva lignocelulozna sirovina. Istražen je utjecaj alkalne obrade na sastav kukuruznih oklasaka. Udio ukupnog lignina u suhoj tvari kukuruznih oklasaka iznosio je 11,55 % (10,02 % netopljivog i 1,54 % topljivog lignina). Ukupni ekstrakt u suhoj tvari alkalno obrađenih kukuruznih oklasaka bio je 1,26 % (0,53 % vodenog ekstrakta i 0,73 % etanolnog ekstrakta). Alkalnom obradom je uklonjen velik dio lignina. U suhoj tvari alkalno obrađenih i ekstrahiranih kukuruznih oklasaka bilo je 5,19 % ukupnog lignina (2,74 % netopljivog i 2,16 % topljivog lignina). Istovremeno je došlo do povećanja udjela celuloze sa 42,23 % u polaznoj sirovini na 74,38 % u suhoj tvari alkalno obrađenih kukuruznih oklasaka. Udio hemiceluloze, izračunat oduzimanjem ostalih spojeva od ukupne suhe tvari bio je 39,00 % u kukuruznim oklascima, odnosno 18,52 % u alkalno obrađenom materijalu. Bojenje mikroskopskih preparata floroglucinolom nije pogodno za vizualizaciju lignina u kukuruznim oklascima prije i poslije alkalne obrade, međutim ova metoda se pokazala uspješnom za slamu.

Abstract (english)

Corn cobs can be used as a readily available renewable lignocellulosic feedstock. The effect of alkaline treatment on corn cobs composition was analyzed. Portion of total lignin in the dry matter of corn cobs was 11.55 % (10.02 % and 1.54 % of insoluble and soluble lignin, respectively). The share of total extract in dry matter of corn cobs after alkaline treatment was 1.26 % (0.53 % of water extract and 0.73% of ethanol extract). The treatment has removed a large part of lignin. The treated corn cobs contained 5.19 % of the total lignin (2.46 % and 2.73 % of insoluble and soluble lignin, respectively) in the dry matter. At the same time there has been an increase in the portion of cellulose in the dry matter, with approximately 42.23 % in the raw material to 74.38 % in the alkaline processed material. Portion of hemicellulose, calculated by subtracting other compounds from the total solids, were 39.00 and 18.52 % for corn cobs and alkaline treated material, repectively. Staining with phloroglucinol was not a suitable method for the microscopic visualization of lignin in corn cobs (both before and after alkaline treatment). However, this method was successful for straw.
