Abstract

Arsen je teški metal široko rasprostranjen u okolišu, a možemo ga naći u vodi, tlu, zraku i hrani. Dugotrajna izloženost niskim dozama arsena izaziva niz zdravstvenih problema koji se očituju gastrointestinalnim smetnjama te disfunkcijom kardiovaskularnog, respiratornog, reprodukcijskog i živčanog sustava te promjenama na koži. Arsen je klasificiran kao humani karcinogen te je dokazano da uzrokuje karcinom mjehura, bubrega, jetre, pluća i kože. U podzemnim vodama istočnog dijela Republike Hrvatske utvrđena je koncentracija arsena koja iznosi 1,3 do 491 μg L-1, dok je maksimalna koncentracija tog metala u vodi za piće koju preporučuje Svjetska zdravstvena organizacija 10 μg L-1. Najveće koncentracije arsena u podzemnim vodama nađene su u unutrašnjim dijelovima Dravske i Savske depresije.

Abstract (english)

Arsenic is heavy metal widely distributed in the environment, and it can be found in water, soil, air and food. Prolonged exposure to low doses of arsenic causes a number of health problems manifested by gastrointestinal disorders, skin changes and cardiovascular, respiratory, reproductive and nervous system dysfunctions. Arsenic is classified as human carcinogen and has been shown to cause bladder, kidney, liver, lung and skin cancers. In the groundwater of the eastern part of the Republic of Croatia, an arsenic concentration of 1.3 to 491 μg L-1 has been established, while the maximum concentration of this metal in drinking water recommended by the World Health Organization is 10 μg L-1. The highest concentrations of arsenic in groundwater were found in the inland parts of the Drava and Sava Depression.
