Abstract

Nezakonita upotreba droga je dugi niz godina veliki problem koji zahvaća gotovo cijeli svijet. Analizom otpadne vode moguće je dobiti vrijedne informacije o upotrebi droga u svijetu, što uvelike pomaže pri suzbijanju ilegalnog korištenja droga i njenog tržišta. U tu svrhu koristi se relativno nova znanstvena disciplina, „epidemiologija temeljena na otpadnim vodama“ (WBE, engl. Wastewater Based Epidemiology), koja daje kvantitativnu i kvalitativnu analizu upotrebe različitih vrsta droga u točno određenim područjima i u točno željenom vremenskom periodu kao i praćenje promjenjivih trendova s obzirom na vrste korištenih opijata i još puno vrijednih informacija za motrenje i suzbijanje tržišta droge. Povezivanjem podataka dobivenih analizom otpadnih voda s podacima tradicionalnih metoda za praćenje konzumacije droga te podacima dostupnim iz policijskih i zdravstvenih izvora, moguće je dobiti vjerodostojniju sliku globalnog problema s drogom.

Abstract (english)

Illegal use of drugs has been a major problem affecting almost the entire world for many years. By analyzing wastewater, it is possible to obtain valuable information about the use of drugs in the world, which greatly helps in suppressing the illegal use of drugs and its market. For this purpose, a relatively new scientific discipline is used, "Wastewater Based Epidemiology" (WBE), which provides a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the use of different types of drugs in precisely defined areas and in a precisely desired period of time, as well as the monitoring of changing trends regarding the types of opiates used and a lot of other valuable information for monitoring and suppressing the drug market. By linking data obtained from wastewater analysis with data from traditional methods for monitoring drug consumption and data available from police and health sources, it is possible to obtain a more credible state of the global drug problem.
