Abstract

Prisutstvo teških metala u tlu biljkama predstavlja abiotički stres kojemu se različite biljke odupiru na različite načine. Biljke hiperakumulatori metala kao što su to biljke iz porodice Brassicaceae imaju sposobnost nakupljanja metala u organizmu. Također je uočeno da u takvim biljkama dolazi do interakcije metala i sekundarnih metabolita, ponajprije glukozinolata i polifenola, koji kao obrambeni mehanizmi biljke imaju ulogu u zaštiti biljke od štetnih utjecaja teških metala. U ovom radu ispitan je utjecaj različitih masenih udjela kadmija u tlu na biosintezu sekundarnih metabolita, glukozinolata i polifenola kupusa (Brassica oleracea var. capitata) i kelja (Brassica oleracea var. sabellica), u različitim dijelovima biljke (korijenu, stabljici i listu) te povezanost sekundarnih metabolita biljke s obranom od stresa uzrokovanog visokim masenim udjelima teških metala u tlu. Dobiveni rezultati ukazuju na to da kadmij specifično utječe na sastav i sadržaj glukozinolata ovisno o ispitivanoj biljnoj vrsti. Određivanja masenih udjela polifenola u kupusu i kelju također nisu dali uniformne rezultate, što upućuje na kompleksnost interkakcija akumulacije kadmija i biosinteze sekundarnih metabolita.

Abstract (english)

The presence of heavy metals in soil represents abiotic stress for plants, which fight against it in different ways. Plants that are metal hyperaccumulators, like those from the Brassicaceae family, have the ability to accumulate metals in organism. Nevertheless, it has been noticed that in such plants, metals and secondary metabolites, such as glucosinolates and polyphenols, interact with each other. These secondary metabolites have an important role in plant protection from hazardous effect of heavy metals. In this thesis, it was investigated what is the impact of cadmium in soil on glucosinolates and polyphenols synthesis in leaves, shoots and roots of cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata) and kale (Brassica oleracea var. sabellica) as well as the connection between secondary metabolites and stress caused by presence of heavy metals in soil. The results suggest that cadmium has a different impact on these two plant species, and that there is a huge complexity of interactions between heavy metal accumulation and secondary metabolite biosynthesis.
