Abstract

Niskotemperaturna eutektička otapala (engl. Deep Eutectic Solvents, DES) imaju velik potencijal za uporabu u industriji zbog svoje nehlapivosti, nezapaljivosti, stabilnosti, jednostavne pripreme i niske cijene početnih sirovina. Glavnina opisanih DES-ova je hidrofilnog karaktera, no zadnjih desetak godina u porastu je i broj publikacija o hidrofobnim DES-ovima, što pokazuje veliki interes za iste u znanstvenom svijetu. U ovom radu ispitana je toksičnost DES-ova timol:dekadska kiselina (1:3), timol:mentol (1:1) i mentol:oktanska kiselina (1:1) na staničnim linijama HaCaT i HeLa, te na sjemenkama obične pšenice (Triticum aestivum sp.). Pšenica je tretirana DES-ovima u rasponu koncentracija od 5 do 500 mg L⁻¹ pri čemu je praćena germinacija, duljina izdanaka te aktivnost antioksidativnih enzima. Stanične linije tretirane su u koncentracijama od 100 do 200 mg L⁻¹, pri čemu nije došlo do ispoljavanja citotoksičnih učinaka.

Abstract (english)

Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have a great potential for industrial use due to their non volatility, non-flammability, stability, easy preparation and low cost of starting raw materials. Most of the described deep eutectic solvents are hydrophilic in nature, but the number of publications on hydrophobic DESs has been increasing in the last ten years, which shows a great interest for their development in the scientific world. In this work, the toxicity of DESs thymol:octanoic acid (1:3), thymol:menthol (1:1) and menthol:decanoic acid (1:1) was tested on HaCaT and HeLa cell lines, and on wheat seeds (Triticum aestivum sp.). Wheat was treated with DES in the concentration range from 5 to 500 mg L⁻¹, where germination, length of shoots and activity of antioxidant enzymes were monitored. The cell lines were treated at concentrations of 100 to 200 mg L⁻¹, and no cytotoxic effects were observed.
